At Aether Weightlifting, our coaches are attentive, supportive, and committed to helping every athlete improve. All of our coaches are USAW certified, ensuring expert guidance at every level. We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive community, where beginners and experienced lifters alike can feel welcome and supported.
Originally started as a local weightlifting club, the Jungle Weightlifting, in 2021 by head coach Jorge Reyes, the program evolved into Aether Weightlifting in 2025, founded by one of his athletes, Seikoh Matsuo. The new name marked a fresh start, with the goal of introducing Olympic weightlifting to more people and building a larger, stronger community around the sport.
Hours
Our gym will be open 24/7 for members with lifting experience, giving you the flexibility to train whenever it fits your schedule.
Location
Coming open to the San Gabriel Valley, with plans to serve lifters in Monterey Park, Alhambra, Rosemead, San Gabriel, Temple City, Arcadia, Pasadena, and nearby areas.

SEIKOH MATSUO
OWNER/COACH
Seikoh is and a USAW Level 1 coach originally from Chiba, Japan who began lifting at the age of 30 and has trained under Aether’s head coach since 2020, developing a strong foundation in Olympic lifting technique. He has competed in multiple events, including the USA Masters National Championships, gaining firsthand experience in training, preparation, and performance. Seikoh is passionate about connecting with people through Olympic weightlifting, sharing knowledge and building community not only in the U.S. but also internationally. He works with lifters of all levels—beginners exploring the fundamentals, athletes refining technique, and anyone looking to grow strength safely and effectively. His approachable coaching style, emphasis on proper form, and enthusiasm for the sport make him a trusted and inspiring presence within the Aether Weightlifting community.
JORGE REYES
HEAD COACH
Jorge brings over 50 years of experience in Olympic weightlifting. He spent 20 years as an athlete on the Nicaraguan national team, competing as both a junior and senior lifter. During his competitive years, he set national records and trained under Cuban, Russian, and Polish coaches — giving him a deep, well-rounded foundation in international weightlifting methodology. In 2000, Jorge coached at the NORCECA Championship, which also served as the Olympic trials. One of his athletes qualified for the Sydney Olympics, a proud milestone in his coaching journey. Now based in the U.S., Jorge holds multiple national and Pan American Masters records, and has coached hundreds of athletes — from youth and beginners to competitive lifters. His technical precision, decades of hands-on experience, and steady presence make him a cornerstone of the Aether Weightlifting community.
